The 2011 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Short Course will be the 85th such meeting in the department's history. Both TxDOT and the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) are proud of this long-standing record of collaboration and cooperation. Over the years, the short course has provided a unique opportunity for these two agencies to exchange important technical information that improves transportation in Texas. This year's meeting will be held October 11-12, 2011. TxDOT planners and their TTI colleagues have developed an excellent program, and we are confident the conference will be of value to all who attend.

TTI's Event Management & Planning (EM&P) is available to answer questions at any time.

As a direct response to the 2010 Transportation Short Course Survey, we have moved this year's event to the Brazos County Expo Complex. Their recent building addition allows for all sessions to be held under one roof, making it easier to move between sessions. There is also plenty of free, on-site parking.

Registration Fees & Payment Information

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) employees, Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) employees, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) employees, and retirees of these organizations, who are not otherwise employed, are not required to pay a registration fee for the 2011 Transportation Short Course. However, we ask that you please register so that your registration materials can be mailed to you.

You may pay your registration fee by check, money order or credit card. TTI EM&P cannot invoice; therefore, payment of the Short Course registration fee must be received prior to admission to the Short Course. Please make your check or money order (U.S. currency drawn on a U.S. bank) payable to TTI-TSC11 and mail payment to TTI EM&P. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit cards are also accepted.

Please note: The District Engineers/Division Directors/Office Directors meeting on Monday, October 10, 2011, is open to TxDOT employees and retirees by invitation only.

Speaker & Moderator Registration Information

Thank you for agreeing to speak and/or moderate at the 2011 Transportation Short Course.

Completion of this online speaker registration form will provide the following:

  • Your registration for the conference
  • Your audio/visual requests
  • Please make sure you provide your presentation title, objectives, session outline and a short bio in your registration.

Online registration will close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.

If you have missed your online registration opportunity, registration will be available on-site at the following times at the Brazos County Expo Complex:

Registration Materials

Registration materials will be mailed to online registrants two weeks prior to Short Course. Remember to bring your registration materials with you to the conference.

Full registration (with the ability to accept on-site registrations) will be available on Monday afternoon October 10, 2011, at the Brazos County Expo Complex from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

Registration Deadline

The deadline for early registration is Monday, September 12, 2011. Late fees will be in effect after this date. Online registration will close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.


Cancellations must be received in writing by TTI EM&P no later than 5:00 pm Monday, September 12, 2011. Cancellations received on or before this date will receive a refund, less a $25 handling fee. No refund requests will be accepted after September 12, 2011.

Dining Options

There will be a Food/Beverage vendor onsite at the Expo Complex selling breakfast and lunch on Tuesday and breakfast on Wednesday for those who wish to purchase. There is an ATM machine located near the food vendor for your convenience as the vendor only accepts cash. See the concessions menu for items and prices.

There is ample parking at the Brazos County Expo Complex. Parking is free and available for all participants. Carpooling is encouraged but not necessary.

Limited Bus Service

There will be limited bus service with pickup/drop off at Bryan/College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau (see map) and pickup/drop off at the Brazos County Expo Complex. For those wanting to use this service, please review the following bus schedule.

Tuesday, October 11th

  • 7am – 9am – Three busses
  • *9am – 4pm – One bus
  • 4pm – 6pm – Three busses

Wednesday, October 12th

  • 7am – 9am – Three busses
  • 9am – 11am – One bus
  • 11pm – 1pm – Three busses

*On Tuesday bus riders are encouraged to purchase lunch from the onsite food vendor at the Brazos County Expo Complex or find a group with which to carpool to area restaurants. Taking a bus for lunch may result in an untimely return back to the Short Course Conference.

Continuing Education Units

Continuing education units (CEUs) will be awarded to participants who meet the requirements for successful completion of the conference. Participants must attend, evaluate each session, and turn in an overall conference evaluation form to be eligible for CEUs. The process for obtaining CEU credit will be outlined in the conference program and announced in the conference sessions.
